Hello my name is Andy
It has been nearly a year to date since I was involved in a head-on collision which changed my life.
I was driving a heavy goods vehicle back from a delivery I have just made on one Saturday morning.
Weather and road condition was perfect, and I was driving on curse control at 40mph there was nothing in front of me.
I was looking some 500meter at the group of traffic that was approaching, all was good.
I recall sighting a dark figure in my lane, that moment in time I entered a surreal slow motion of the event that was about to happen.
The dark figure that I was looking at was a car, as it drove at speed into the front of my goods vehicle, everything played out in slow motion, time seem to stand still.
I could go on to explain in detail what happened, but will sever no purpose in the telling of how my life has changed, along with thousands of road traffic accident casualties, that as been placed on a new path in life.
It took me a while to realised from the time the accident happened that I was on the mental health road to recovery. I noticed that there was a lot of help available once you have been given a label, depression, pstd, anxiety, etc. but nothing to fill the gap of understanding the pain one shares just by being in the company of someone that truly understands.
Not only is it a difficult subject to understand, or appreciate what the impact on a persons life it can be, but how to get though each day afterwards until you can truly move on.
I like others can help share the pain that is inevitable after a RTA, by being a listening ear on the end of a phone, or by organising supervised group theory, which will help you understand “What, How and Why” and to rebuild lost confidence.
Joining me to help others can be the first full step we can make.
